The following policies define the Shadows of Thunder code of conduct
1. Guild Events
2. Guild Website & Message Boards
3. Guild Chat
4. Recruiting
5. Character Name
6. Guild Help
7. Officers & Voting
8. Player Killing (pk)
9. Inter-Guild Protocol
1. Guild Events
For current guild events and endeavors, check the message board. If you are online during and event, while not mandatory you are still strongly encouraged to attend. Our guild can only become strong by member participation. If you have an idea for an event, raid, PvP training, or just a guild meeting to show off trade wares and goods, post it on the message board.
2. Guild Website & Message Board
Every member is expected to visit the guild site regularly, and participate in the message board periodically. Constantly using /guildsay or /tell to ask fellow guildmates what is on the website or message board gets very annoying after awhile. If at anytime you forget the web address, it is (almost)always listed in the guild MOTD(message of the day). This can be viewed by typing /get
3.1 Guild Chat and Language
Guild chat is a privilege that we must all share. Please use proper language when chatting with others through this chat channel. Arguing will not be tolerated. Name-calling can be done elsewhere. After all, we are a guild of friends. We may not all agree on the same topics, this does not mean you are allowed to denounce yourself across guild chat for everyone to see. If you can not control yourself in /guildsay, you will be given one warning. A second offense and you will be removed. Although we certainly do not expect everyone in our guild to behave like saints, profanity is not welcome. Sexual references are not needed and not wanted. The idea in a guild is to make friends that you can hunt with, who will watch your back, and that you can have fun with. If an officer issues an order, it is to be carried out. Failure to do so will result in a vote of the officers for the removal of the offending member. Any discrepancies shall be directed to the guild Leader for final descisions.
3.2 Guild Chat Topics
We do not intend to infringe on anyones first amendment rights, but we must maintain a certain amount of integrity and privacy within our guild. Therefore, we ask that members refrain from pulicly displying their luandry. This means delicate subjects, such as why a member was removed, accusations of any type about fellow guildies, and other peoples personal information, ect., shall not be discussed publicly on guild chat. If you yourself wish to tell your life story, that is your choice, but don't clutter up the airwaves so others become annoyed, or unable to share our community communication line. We have many members in many zones, and we all need use of this vital tool. *In the event an issue arises that must be addressed immediately, such as an initerguild accusation of a charter violation, please contact an officer in a private tell. We have several private chat channels designated for this purpose. *Please refer to section 9: Inter guild Protocol for reporting proceedures.
3.3 Guild Chat Channels
We have set aside several guild chat channels for use by our members. These channels are passworded, and you may only access them when invited or if you are granted the passwords. If you are given passwords to a specific channel you are not to share this with anyone, because different members are given different levels of access to them. If proven this information was devulged, you will loose the privlage permanantly, and the pass words will be changed.
4. Recruiting
Officers may wish to group with you or have you group with exsisting members in your range before giving you a guild invite. Each officer is expected to screen applicants some what to ensure loyalty to our cause. The officer will then instruct you to to read the charter, and post your conformation on the registration board. You are given two weeks to register on the guild site. At the end of the two week time period, you are subject to a short quiz about the charter. This may be given to you by any officer or the guild leader. If you fail the quiz, you will be given a few days before retrying. Three failures will be grounds for removal. You will then be expected to follow the code we base our conduct in Norrath upon.Alternate characters are welcome to join the guild after that persons Main character has attained a level of 30. People with alts already in the guild are encouraged to meet these requirements A.S.A.P.
5. Character Name
We are not incredibly picky, but we refrain from any derrogatory, racial, sexual, or profane character names. Any questionable issuses arise, post or cantact the guild leader.
6. Guild Help
The guild will help members all that we reasonably can. The main help is having experienced players that you can get information from for just about everything you need to know in EQ, and if our people do not know, they will probably be able to tell you were to look to find out. Many players first start out thinking that 30 to 50th level players are able to go to Kithicor Forest and pick up items, like Dark Reavers, Runed Circlets, Crafted Armor, Dragoon Dirks, Observer Staves, Oracle Robes etc., off the trees that they grow on and that these trees produce a never ending supply of these items. Truth is that these items are exceedingly difficult to get regardless of level. Many of these items involve camping a NPC for many hours. Also, these items can seldom be bought for money, and people that do get a good item, can use them, or trade them for an item they can use. So, if you expect to join this guild and to be handed a set of Crafted Armor and a Dark Reaver, this is definitely not the guild for you. However, if you want to meet good people, make friends that as you go up in level will help you complete quests, and help you kill NPC's for these types of items, the Shadows of Thunder will be a good home for you.
6.1 Power Leveling
A good and successful player learns six(6) things: how to level themselves, what to fight, when to fight, when to run, when to play solo, and when to find a group to be with. We are not saying that power leveling is against the rules exactly, but, we are saying that it is not a very reasonable request to make of higher level guild members who themselves are trying to level or are doing quests or are in a group. What is reasonable to ask, is where a good place to hunt at your level and get any recommendations of what has worked well for other members at that level and tips from someone higher and of your class. Not to mention, that people who PL to level 30 say for example, will have the skills of a level ten(10) character at best, since repitition and numbers govern the character abilities. For most classes, it is much more difficult to raise specific skills once past a certain point. This later regret there hasty ascent. Polite requests for assistance in leveling will ONLY be directed to /tells and will NEVER be repeated if a Member denies a request. Requests will NEVER be made in /guildsay.
6.2 Group Teleports
The ability to group teleport is earned by Druids and Wizards when they have obtained their 29th level. Their time is important and they would like to play the game, not spend all their time doing taxi service. Therefore, you will NOT ask for a teleport in /guildsay. A polite request may be made in /tell and, if refused, will NOT be repeated. If those who have the ability to teleport offer in /guildsay, then you may make use of the offer, otherwise use the two legs the Deities above have given you. Remember, the ability to group teleport has been EARNED by each Member with that ability.
6.3 Revive, Resuscitate, Resurrection & Reviviscence
Clerics earn the ability to restore a corpse to life starting at the 29th level. Their time is important and they would like to play the game, not spend all their time doing CPR service. Therefore, you will NOT ask for a resurrection in /guildsay. A polite request may be made in /tell and, if refused, will NOT be repeated. If those who have the ability to resurrect offer in /guildsay, then you may make use of the offer, otherwise use the two legs the Deities above have given you to recover your corpse. Remember, the ability to restore a corpse to life has been EARNED by the Members who have the ability to do so.
7 Officers positions & Voting
Officer positions are appointed by the guild leader only. If the guild leader chooses to hold an election, use the voting booth message board to cast your vote. All officers, titled and untitled are expected to recruit people into our guild.
Events Coordinator is primarily responsible for large raids and events with or without other guilds. This person may employ as many people as they wish to assist them. Other members are still encouraged to post ideas for raids, meetngs, trade shows, and events for our guild. These things may be held without the Event Coordinator, but all multi-guild events are to be approved by this person.
Diplomats duties include, but are not limited to the following:
1) Representatives of SoT at other guilds meetings
2) Propose and forge alliances with other guilds
3) Work with and assist the Events Coordinator
4) Gather information about other guilds (ie: stance, leader, officers, web address) to keep our database current
5) Police the members and officers of our orgaization to insure our charter is being upheld
Officers
1) Arbitrators for intra-guild politics. Settle disputes within the guild, and maintain peaceful relations betwixed guildies.
2) Police the members of our organization to insure our charter is being upheld
8. Player Killing
The success of a Guild is always based on how well the Members work together and help each other. Since we exist on a PvP server, we are compelled to establish a stance on killing other players.
We are an anti-pk Guild, and it is important that you know the Guilds policies on pkers. We define a pker as someone who kills for a reason we deem negative.
- *The most important thing: to know about a pker is that they are for a fact a pker. PK stands for Player Killer and since just about everyone ends up killing other players at some time, its important to understand what the different types pkers are and what policy we have toward each kind.
8.1 Retribution PKers - Everyone in our Guild falls in this category, if we are attacked or killed, we will kill the player responsible if we can. We will also hunt down anyone that attacks or kills our Members, or we will help a non-Member against a known pker. Anyone killing another player because that player killed them falls into this category. So this is one type of pker we will never KOS.
8.2 Race - Class or Role-play Pkers - These are Players who role-play killing specific races or classes. A good example of this is a Wood Elf, which is one of the good races who role-plays killing Trolls, one of the evil races, or a Druid who is ridding the world of the terrible Necromancers. With this type of pker we do not KOS them unless they kill one of our Members, most players in this category are good and honorable and would never pk out of meanness or profit.
8.3 Grudge Pkers - If, for some reason you and another player have some dispute that turns into a feud between the two of you, where you are killing each other all the time, it is unreasonable to involve your Guild in a on going personal battle. Granted, if this person kills you, the Guild will respond if possible, but if it turns out to be just a personal grudge between two players, then we would suggest that you somehow work it out between the two of you. If this situation escalates to where a guild, any guild becomes involved against a member of the Shadows of Thunder, every member is involved. If this guild is not a known pk guild, this situation WILL be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved, period. If you need an officer present one will be made available.
8.4 Random PKers - This is the type of pker that pks for fun and profit. This is the type of scum this Guild and every other anti-pk Guilds were meant to hunt and fight. A random pker is the player that kills you when you have 10 hit points or if your 4 levels lower than he is. These are the players that do the nasty things like corpse camp, zone camp and will utilize any exploit to kill you. If you have something they want, and it looks like you might give them a good fight, they will go get some of their buddies so they can kill you without any risk. This type of pker is always to be added to our KOS list.
8.5 PvP structure:
In order for a player to attack you, they must be within a 4 level spread either lower or higher than you. So if you are a 10th level player, any player from 6th to 14th level can attack you. One thing to keep in mind is that pkers do not fight fair, their favorite things to do is to kill you when you way down on health, attack you while you are fighting, double or triple team you so there is no risk to them. Usually, if you are killed by a pker, there are either more than one or the pker is 3 - 4 levels higher than you. If your pker stays in your area (zone), round up the Guild Members that are in his level range. Go after him or her, if there are four of you and one pker. You may feel this is not fair, but there is no such thing as fair in PvP, only who wins and who dies. You can be assured that the pker would never think twice about killing you by any method he can find, and if he could get 20 people to help kill you, he would. The only way to get the best of a pker is with teamwork. You also must develop some realistic expectations as to if your going to be able to hunt down the pker. A really good pker and there are many on this server, is not going to stick around while you round up your buddies to kill him, he will either zone or gate right after he gets what he can off your body. So he will be long gone. So, what do you do then and what can the rest of the Guild do in this case? The answer unfortunately is very little. We can put the pker on our KOS list and hope we meet up with them again when they are not expecting it. Also as our Guild grows, eventually we will have Members in just about every zone we can have the Membership check their zones to find out where the pker is. Catching a pker is not easy. It is almost impossible many times, but it can be done what you need to find out is where they hunt and what times they are on, then hopefully lay a trap for them. Always provide Guild Officers with names of people on your "Hit" list and reasons why. Whenever possible, make an effort to help those in trouble, including non-Members. We have an image to earn and maintain. After all, we are Good Samaritans.
8.6 If you see two players you do not know and one is attacking the other, a number of things could be happening:
1. The person attacking is a pker and the other person is the victim.
2. The person attacking is the victim, and he is getting his revenge on the pker.
3. Neither are pkers, their friends and they are horsing around.
4. It is a duel.
So, what should you do as a Member of an anti-pk Guild if it is not readily apparent who the evil person is in this match? The answer is simple: NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
If you pick the wrong person to help you could be helping a pker kill the victim, if it is a couple of friends horsing around they will think you are a pker and kill you. If it is a duel you are in the wrong if you help anyone. Again to go after a pker you must know for a fact that the person is a pker. If someone yells, "help pker" or shouts, "Toby is a pker", does that mean they are a pker? No, it does not. Most of the time when we go after a pker, it will be because they have pked or attacked a Member of our Guild. Also, if we see a Member of a pk Guild attacking a non-Guild Member that we know for a fact is not a pker we should come to their aid if we are able to. The main reason we go after someone that has attacked or killed one of our Guild Members is to let everyone know its not a good idea to attack Members of our Guild. Once a pker has been tracked down and killed we will consider that we are even with that person and will not attack them again unless they attack us again.
9. Inter Guild Protocol
This section of the CoC is subject to change as situations come to light. We will attempt to notify our members, but you are encouraged to periodically check as time permits.
9.1 Guild Flag
Your Guild Flag is to be on at all times. It is an honor to bear our flag, and shall be treated as such. The only acceptable exception to this rule, and it is rarely needed, would be if you feel you are being hunted by our enemies in a zone and are completely alone, with out ANY chance of survival or backup. In the unlikely event this occurs, you MUST make all the members online well aware of this by announcing this fact in guild chat, and in all of the private channels you have access to. Your guild flag should be turned back on as soon as pssible there after. Any member found parading around for hours on end, not displying their flag will be assumed one of the following: 1. You intend to violate the Charter. 2. You are attempting to spy on fellow guildmates in an act of treason. Either of these actions will not be taken lightly, and disciplinary measures will ensue.
9.2 Proper Channels
If any situation presents itself that is inter-guild related, or will affect the guild as a whole, contact an officer imediately. Do NOT attempt to confront or resolve the issue, and do not take it to guild chat. (Rrefer to section 3: Guild Chat).
This may include, but is not limited to:
1. A fellow member violating our guild Charter
2. A rival, enemy, or even allied guild approaching you or another member in an effort to corrupt, bribe, intimidate, interrogate, or otherwise sacrafice our loyalty and security.
3. Any dispute between guild members
4. An allied guild attacking a member
5. Accusations by a non guild member, non allied guild member, or third party, that you feel is propotionate in result.
